Power + Equity in Action

July 21st - 22nd, Nairobi, Kenya

Join fellow NEID members for a two-day immersive learning journey ahead of the Segal Family Foundation Annual Meeting in Kenya.

Philanthropy is at an inflection point. The questions we’re asking about power, who leads, and what it truly means to support locally driven change have never been more urgent. This trip is designed to put you in conversation with the people living and leading this work every day

Building on NEID’s Power and Equity work, this experience will weave together:

  • Site visits to locally led organizations doing transformative work across the region

  • Panel discussions with local leaders and sector experts

  • Structured reflection and peer dialogue –  the kind of honest, generative conversation that creates real change

As a sector, we are grappling with profound questions about the future of philanthropy amid a rapidly shifting global landscape. This trip offers a chance to engage with those questions alongside a trusted group of peers – not in a conference room or lecture hall, but on the ground, in conversation with the leaders shaping this work every day.

This isn’t a program delivered to participants, it’s one shaped by them.

You will help co-create the agenda in advance of the trip, with opportunities to highlight and learn from the work of your grantees where relevant. By pairing this experience with the Segal Family Foundation Annual Meeting, NEID members will also engage with a vibrant ecosystem of locally led organizations pioneering innovative responses to systemic challenges across Sub-Saharan Africa.

We are all navigating a rapidly shifting global landscape that is forcing philanthropy to reckon with its role and its relationships. This experience offers something rare: the chance to sit with those hard questions alongside trusted peers, in a place where locally led solutions are already taking shape.
